Oklahoma City Police release safety tips for trick-or-treating this Halloween

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – The Oklahoma City Police Department has released some tips to ensure a safe and happy Halloween.

According to OKCPD, tips for trick-or-treaters and parents include:

  • Use sidewalks and crosswalks. Make sure to look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Make sure you can be seen, even in the dark. Reflective tape, flashlights and glowsticks make it easier to see trick-or-treaters after dark.
  • Children 12 and under should stay with an adult. Older kids should stay in groups and stick to a familiar route to make sure no one gets lost.
  • Remember to only approach houses with their porch light on. You should never go near a stranger’s home or car.
  • Never eat candy that has not been thoroughly checked for tampering. An adult should look through the child’s candy before it is eaten.
  • Drivers are reminded to slow down and pay close attention to trick-or-treaters.

“Have a fantastic, fright-filled, and SAFE Halloween OKC!” said OKCPD…
