OKLAHOMA CITY – It’s been a warm stretch lately, but don’t get too comfortable. Things are about to change as we head deeper into winter.
I’m expecting some colder air, a few Arctic blasts, and yes, a little snow, but overall this winter looks pretty typical for us.
Here’s what I’m seeing:
- Precipitation should be close to average across most of the state.
- Mix of rain, snow, and maybe a little ice here and there.
- For Oklahoma City, I’m calling for around seven inches of snow. (Right on par with our usual winter.)
- The last few years have been pretty quiet, about three to four inches each winter, but remember 2020–2021? That was a big one with more than 20 inches of snow!
We’ve got a few key things driving this forecast.
- There’s a weak La Niña in the Pacific,
- Drought conditions are still hanging on
- Snowpack up north is starting to build.
When you put all that together, it points to some big temperature swings, warm one week, freezing the next…
