Oklahoma City Shelters Expand Capacity for Homeless During Freezing Temperatures

As the chill of winter tightens its grip, shelters across Oklahoma City are opening their doors wider to those in need. According to Oklahoma City’s website, local emergency overnight shelters are set to accommodate nearly 400 more individuals and families seeking refuge from the cold.

Jamie Caves, Strategy Implementation Manager for Key to Home Partnership, mentioned on the Oklahoma City’s website, “We want everyone who wants a warm bed to have one.” Waiving concern for the freezing temperatures, they emphasized that no one should have to sleep outside when the mercury plummets.

With the threat of frostbite and hypothermia, outreach workers are actively informing the unhoused about the increased shelter availability this weekend, as temperatures are expected to fall below the freezing point.
