Oklahoma City has launched a new online tool called ‘What Goes Where’ to help residents sort waste and recycling. The OKC Utilities Department introduced the tool on November 13, 2025, during America Recycles Day. City officials, including Mayor David Holt, Councilperson James Cooper, and Utilities Director Chris Browning, attended the event. Community members and students from John Rex Elementary School were also present.
The tool is available at recycleokc.com. It allows users to search for over 500 household items to find the correct disposal method. Residents can learn if an item should go in the Big Blue trash cart, Big Green recycling cart, bulky waste, or be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center. The tool also lists items not accepted by the city’s solid waste program, such as plastic bags, garden hoses, and some plastics.
Currently, about 70% of materials in Oklahoma City’s recycling carts are recycled. The remaining 30% is contamination and goes to landfills. City officials said the local contamination rate is about 10% higher than the national average. This increases costs and reduces recycling effectiveness…
