“I would drop 200 square miles of the city”: OKC Mayor talks urban sprawl at city council

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — In terms of land area, Oklahoma City is one large city.

Sitting at roughly 621 square miles, the city ranks near the top in terms of large cities in America by acreage. And that urban sprawl is causing some concern among city councilors.

The issue was brought up yet again at Tuesday’s City Council meeting when an agenda item was discussed regarding a land swap between the City and Yukon. The swap includes annexing and de-annexing some land to Yukon that had originally been planned for a sporting complex. Now, after renegotiating, the city and its suburban counterpart will essentially swap land near C.E. Page Airport and Yukon Parkway near Highway 4…
