Oklahoma City Enforces Fireworks Ban for New Year’s Eve, Sets Up Hotline for Reports

As New Year’s Eve approaches and the night sky prepares to light up with celebratory spectacles, the City of Oklahoma City is reminding residents of its strict fireworks ordinances. Keeping safety and order in mind, the City urges citizens to abide by these regulations, emphasizing that it’s illegal to buy, sell, or use fireworks within city limits. This ban extends to all manner of pyrotechnics, including the seemingly innocuous sparklers, snakes, bottle rockets, and alike, on both private and public properties, parks, lakes, and the Oklahoma River areas, as reported by the City of Oklahoma City.

Understanding that New Year’s festivities often bring out the rogue firecracker enthusiasts, the City provides channels for reporting these activities without clogging up 911 lines reserved for life-threatening emergencies. If fireworks are merely a nuisance and not causing immediate harm or fire, residents should instead turn to alternative methods. According to information detailed by the City of Oklahoma City, there’s a Fireworks Hotline available at (405) 297-2222 from 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. on Jan. 1. Additionally, reports can be made via email at [email protected] or through a text to (405) 252-1053.

Those caught igniting fireworks in violation of the ordinance could face stiff penalties. “Violators of the City’s fireworks ordinances are subject to a fine of $500, confiscation of fireworks and a possible jail sentence,” as outlined by the City of Oklahoma City’s statement. These measures aim to prevent the potential dangers and disruptions caused by the unsanctioned use of fireworks, protecting the community’s welfare and peace during the celebratory season…
