OKLAHOMA CITY – Grief touches every life, but many people feel unsure how to navigate it or how to support someone who is struggling. During this interview,Calm Waters CEO Trisha Koelsch explains a free community grief training designed to help both professionals and the public better understand the grief journey, learn practical support techniques and recognize that a wide range of emotions, from sadness to joy, are normal and valid.
Who is this grief training for?
Koelsch: “This training that’s coming up is a community grief training, and it is for professionals and really anyone who wants to attend to learn different techniques on how to support those who are suffering from grief.”
What can participants expect from the training?
Koelsch: “The training is about three hours long. You will actually learn several different techniques and best practices from others who have joined in the field of how to navigate the grief journey, walk alongside someone who’s struggling with grief, as well as, you know, tips and tricks, you know, for yourself.”
Can you tell us more about grief, and what would you tell people who are struggling?
Koelsch: “One of the things that we love to tell people is all of your feelings deserve, all of your emotions and feelings deserve a seat at the table. And I think some people feel guilty for feeling joy. And when you attend this grief training, you understand that it’s okay to let people feel joy and to feel sadness. You can have both of those things. You can hold them both in your hands at the same time.”…
