Southeast OKC Block Locked Down After Shooting, Barricaded Resident

A Monday evening shooting in southeast Oklahoma City left up to two people shot and sent a third person barricading themself inside a home near Southeast 48th Street and South Sooner Road. Officers rushed into the neighborhood, set up a perimeter and brought in emergency crews, as a wave of squad cars and flashing lights slowed traffic and kept many residents indoors while investigators got to work.

According to KOCO, Oklahoma City police arrived just after 6:15 p.m. and told the station there were as many as two shooting victims. KOCO also reported that another person barricaded themself in a nearby home. Officials said the conditions of the people who were shot were not immediately known.

The City of Oklahoma City notes that the officer involved is typically placed on paid administrative leave while both criminal and internal reviews move forward, a process that can stretch on for weeks or months. Once those detectives finish their work, cases are generally turned over to the district attorney, who decides whether to file criminal charges, according to the city guidance.
