Trash fire started by battery inside Oklahoma City garbage truck

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – The City of Oklahoma City is reminding residents to be careful when disposing of batteries after a fire began in the back of a garbage truck on Monday.

According to the City of OKC, a driver heard an explosion coming from the back of the garbage truck. Smoke and fire quickly began coming from the truck.

“When compacted with other trash in our trucks, batteries can spark, igniting fires that quickly spread to other trash.” said the City.

The driver was able to dump the garbage and exit the vehicle safely while the fire department responded.
