Gunfire Rocks Meadowlark Lane As Piedmont Cop Cut By Flying Glass

A late night domestic disturbance call in Piedmont turned dangerous Wednesday when a man opened fire on officers outside a northeast side home. A patrol vehicle was hit, and one officer suffered minor facial injuries from glass and fragments. He was taken to a hospital, treated and released. A woman from inside the home was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Officials said that just before 10:30 p.m., Piedmont officers responded to a home in the 1100 block of Meadowlark Lane NE and were met with gunfire, according to KOCO. Piedmont officers, the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol secured the area while medics evaluated those who were hurt.

Piedmont officials wrote that “This was a dangerous situation” and said their training and coordination with partner agencies helped bring the incident to a safe resolution, adding that there was no ongoing threat to the public, according to KOCO. The outlet also reported that the suspect surrendered and was booked into the Canadian County jail on complaints that included assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and domestic abuse by strangulation.

Authorities say the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office handled custody and bookings while the Oklahoma Highway Patrol provided support at the scene.
