Shots Fired On South May Spark Wild OKC Pickup Chase, End In Dramatic TVI Stop

A shots-fired call in southwest Oklahoma City on Tuesday morning kicked off a fast-moving chase that ended with two people in handcuffs, according to police. Officers spotted a black pickup that matched the caller’s description, and during the pursuit the driver allegedly rammed the truck into a police vehicle. The chase wrapped up after officers used a tactical vehicle intervention to stop the pickup in the 1300 block of SW 58th, where two people bailed out on foot before officers caught up with them.

According to KFOR, the initial 911 call came from the 7000 block of South May Avenue, reporting shots fired and bringing officers to the area. Police then pursued a black pickup that matched the description from that call, and investigators say the driver intentionally rammed a patrol vehicle during the chase. KFOR reports officers ultimately used a TVI maneuver in the 1300 block of SW 58th to bring the truck to a stop and that the case remains under investigation.

What a TVI involves

Police policy manuals describe a tactical vehicle intervention, sometimes compared to a PIT-style maneuver, as a trained technique where officers make controlled contact with a suspect’s vehicle in order to disable or stop it. Departments restrict when it can be used because of the potential danger to the people inside the vehicle and to anyone nearby. Agency guidelines emphasize that only trained officers should use the tactic and only after weighing factors such as speed, traffic and pedestrian activity. The goal is to weigh the ongoing risk of a prolonged chase against the hazards of forcing a vehicle to stop, as outlined in the Centralia Police Department policy manual. Many departments also carry out after-action reviews whenever officers deploy the maneuver.

Investigation ongoing

Oklahoma City police have not yet released the names of the two people arrested or said whether anyone was injured. KFOR reports the department says the incident is still under investigation, and detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward. Officials have not provided additional details on potential charges or confirmed any injuries…
