National Guard could be called to the OK County jail if staff cut

If the Oklahoma County jail truly goes broke and has to slash its staff, putting detainees and remaining detention officers in danger, the Oklahoma National Guard would be called in and the Department of Corrections asked to assist, County Commissioner Bryan Maughan said.

Such drastic measures are possible, if not likely, as soon as Tuesday, March 31, after special called meetings of the jail trust and the county Budget Board, which controls county spending.

The board has already balked at giving the jail more money and voted to recommend disbanding the trust, on March 18. This week, jail administrator Tim Kimrey released a lengthy list of “operational improvements” under his six-month tenure, in an apparent attempt to get them before the public ahead of the meetings…
