EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Clerk’s Office brought its mobile unit to the La Tuna Federal Correctional Institution this week to provide what they are calling vital records services to inmates there.
This marked the first time the El Paso County Clerk’s mobile unit provided on-site birth certificate services at a federal correctional institution.
Inmates preparing for release were given the opportunity to request and purchase certified copies of their birth certificates. By providing on-site access to these vital records, individuals can begin obtaining the documentation often needed to secure employment, housing, identification, education, and other essential services upon their release, the County Clerk’s Office said.“Our office was excited to team up with La Tuna and be part of this historic effort to provide vital records services directly to inmates preparing for reintegration,” Chief Deputy Anthony Bedoya said.The County Clerk’s Office said it is encouraged by the success of its initial visit and looks forward to continuing its partnership with La Tuna Federal Correctional Institution…
