Decoration dispute leads El Paso boxer to knockout family member

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — After a disagreement with party decorations, a family member stated they lost consciousness after El Paso boxer Kayla Gomez repeatedly punched her in the face, according to court documents obtained by KTSM 9 News.

As KTSM previously reported, the 22-year-old fighter was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury – family violence. She was booked into the El Paso County Jail with a $2,500 bond.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, police from the Anthony, Texas Police Department were dispatched to the 600 block of Celeste Street in reference to an assault.

When officers arrived, a family member stated to police that they were in an alleged verbal confrontation with Gomez after Gomez disagreed with celebration decorations for her daughter.

The family member then stated that Gomez allegedly punched them an unknown number of times, causing them to lose consciousness. The family member said they were “blacking out,” according to court documents.

Once the family member gained consciousness, they saw other family members attempting to apprehend Gomez, as Gomez was allegedly attempting to continue assaulting the family member, as read in the arrest affidavit…
