National Hot Dog Day is Wednesday, July 15. It’s a day to celebrate the American classic, either by taking advantage of hot dog deals at various restaurants or perhaps making your own with your favorite condiment.
Around the Borderland, if we want to talk about hot dogs, we must talk up the Juárez dog, a popular hot dog inspired by our sister city and typically identified by the wiener being wrapped in bacon. That is the first part.
From there, the toppings are as varied as the imagination. You can top your Juárez dog with whole beans, pico de gallo, raw chopped or grilled onions, mayonnaise (a popular condiment in Mexican street food), mustard, ketchup, and/or jalapeño slices.
