El Paso County asks Abbott to address ‘rapid growth’ of data centers in Texas

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Commissioners Court approved on Monday, Aug. 17 sending a letter and a formal resolution to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott addressing the “rapid growth of data centers” in Texas.

Commissioners Court is also requesting that El Paso County receive the same protections being extended to other communities that are on the state’s main power grid, according to a news release sent out by Commissioner David Stout’s office.

The letter follows the governor’s recent visit to El Paso, during which he discussed a directive requiring the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) to audit all data centers seeking grid interconnection, alongside a pause on new interconnections until that audit is complete…
