Four Union Pacific trains derail in Texas

EL PASO, Texas — An 18-car derailment of a Union Pacific train in El Paso triggered a hazardous materials response on Thursday, Aug. 20, but officials ultimately said the material spilled did not pose a threat to the public.

It was one of four UP derailments in Texas on Thursday; others were near Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Marshall.

KFOX-TV reports the derailment in central El Paso occurred at 11:43 a.m. near Interstate 10 and Cotton Street. No injuries occurred; officials did not identify the spilled material…
