El Paso County Sheriff’s Office projected deficit grows to $3.5M

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Expenses on Sheriff’s Office salaries, overtime and meals at the jail are driving the department’s projected deficit by the end of the 2026 fiscal year.

County officials estimate the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will have a $3.5 million deficit by the end of September. The latest estimate came from El Paso County Budget Director Carmen Arrieta-Candelaria during a Monday, Aug. 24, meeting with the Commissioners Court.
