EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Rising property taxes are impacting El Pasoans and raising questions for buyers in the local housing market.
El Paso council approves 2026-27 budget
El Paso homeowners face a series of property tax increases this year, including an average annual increase of:
- $105 for the City of El Paso
- $41 for El Paso County
- $15.89 for El Paso Community College
Taxpayers are also paying, on average, $10 for the University Medical Center Hospital District with a no-new-revenue tax rate.

These totals could climb even higher if voters approve school property tax increases placed on the November ballot by the Ysleta and Socorro independent school districts.
Suzanne Gomez, an El Paso resident, said the city needs to be more strategic when bringing in larger businesses to help offset costs for homeowners.
“Everybody keeps saying that they’re going to try to get businesses to come in so that they can do their fair share,” Gomez said, “But then they come in, and we give them breaks so they come in and give us their business. But then again, everything falls back on the homeowner to pay all the taxes.”…
