Today, Governor Greg Abbott announced a massive $1.7 million that was awarded to six organizations in West Texas. The decision was made as a part of the Texas Veterans Commission’s Grants Across Texas Tour.
The grand total of funding will go towards providing services to about 1,800 local veterans in West Texas.
Organizations Receiving Veteran Funds
The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grants will be distributed to the following recipients and services:
- City of El Paso – $140,000 for transportation services
- El Paso County – $285,000 for financial assistance and $400,000 for Veterans Treatment Court
- Jeff Davis County – $200,000 for housing for Texas heroes
- Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission – $275,000 for housing for Texas heroes
- Project Amistad – $200,000 for clinical counseling
- Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) El Paso del Norte Region – $200,000 for family & child support services
Gov. Abbott stated that the actions taken to provide funding to West Texas veterans is meant to honor those who have served:
These funds for Veterans’ Assistance grants will provide the brave men and women who served in our nation’s military access to crucial services they need to thrive across West Texas. Our state will always support our veterans, their families, and the service to our state and country.
