NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — The company behind “Project Jupiter” is offering to fund and research carbon emission capture and renewable energy in New Mexico. Construction is already underway on the $165 billion AI data center in Santa Teresa.
On Tuesday, Oracle announced $1 million to support research into “Carbon Capture and Sequestration,” a technique that could re-capture carbon dioxide to be stored or used for industrial purposes. If successful, this could ultimately reduce the expected CO2 emissions from Project Jupiter.
Its environmental impacts are a topic of great concern for community members and state lawmakers, with temporary data center moratoriums already enacted in multiple New Mexico counties.
