HOME begins demolition of former HQ in hopes of new housing in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Housing Opportunity Management Enterprises (HOME), the largest housing authority in Texas, has begun demolition of its former headquarters in South-Central El Paso.

HOME is proposing that the 105,000-square-foot building, located at 5300 E. Paisano Dr., be used for a Class A affordable apartment community. The proposal would include about 200 to 300 one-and two-bedroom apartment homes.

Demolition is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, and the construction of the proposed development is slated to begin in late 2027.

“The demolition of our former headquarters at 5300 E. Paisano marks the end of an important chapter in HOME’s history and the beginning of a new one,” Gerald Cichon, CEO of HOME, said. “This property served our organization and the El Paso community for many years, and we are excited about the opportunity to reimagine the site in a way that responds to the changing needs of the surrounding area. As El Paso’s medical and educational district continues to grow, we see tremendous potential to bring high-quality, affordable housing to this important part of our community.”…
