EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Court documents for the 29-year-old woman, who is accused of leaving the scene of a deadly hit-and-run in 2025, and was recently captured and brought to El Paso, had her children in the vehicle when she allegedly struck Maria Lopez.
Last week, Melanie Christine Cuellar was extradited from Eagle Pass, Texas, for her involvement in the crash that happened on a Saturday morning on July 19, 2025 along the 6800 block of Alameda Avenue.
According to court documents, the 77-year-old mother and grandmother was crossing northbound on Alameda on foot. She waited for vehicle traffic to clear and walked into the westbound lanes when a light-colored SUV struck her.

“(Lopez) sustained major head trauma as a result of the impact and died at the scene,” read the affidavit.
