Fabens HS mariachi heading to state competition for 2nd year

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) – Fabens High School mariachi Los Gatos Salvajes will be heading to state competition after earning a division 1 all-around at the West Texas UIL Region Mariachi Contest held Saturday, Jan. 27 at Eastwood High School, Fabens Independent School District announced in a news release.

Mariachi director Natalie Carrasco said she is very honored to work with such dedicated students.

“They showed up every day and made sure to learn from it, and their hard work paid off.  This win is about them and how hard they were willing to work for it,” Carrasco said.

“Today was a perfect presentation, everything was in perfect synchrony, the movement on stage was good, the voices were in tune, harmony and melody played with confidence and skills,” Los Gatos Salvajes President Rene Montañez (senior) said. “The mariachi did what they were told and more. Obviously, there are things we can improve on, but I think we have enough time to make those small adjustments and improve even more. The state competition this year looks very promising.”
