UTILITY: Parts of Sunland Park may see ‘discolored water’ after water tank drop

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A Southern New Mexico utility is reporting that some customers in Sunland Park may “experience discolored water momentarily” after a water tank dropped to a low level because of a “communication error.”

UPDATE: Utility says all but 1 area now has drinking water

The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority provides water to both Santa Teresa and Sunland Park. The utility is recommending that customers “flush their sinks” for 10 minutes if they are getting discolored water.

Water advisory issued for Santa Teresa, Sunland Park

In recent months, there have been several high-profile incidents where residents were upset about the quality, color and taste of their water.

The utility issued the following statement on its website. It was also listed on the City of Sunland Park Facebook page.

UTILITY: Water discolored but still safe in Southern NM

“A communication error has occurred in the water system causing a water tank that distributes water to the Sunland Park area to drop to a low level. Some areas in Sunland Park may experience discolored water momentarily until the water tank resumes to normal levels. The water tank communication error has thus been resolved; it is advised for residents to flush their sinks for 10 minutes if experiencing discolored water. The discoloration should not last longer than 24 hours if discoloration occurs call CRRUA Administrative Office 575-589-1075.”
