El Paso Southwest Airlines plane experiences ‘mechanical issue’

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A Southwest Airlines plane flying from El Paso to Las Vegas experienced a “potential mechanical issue” on Wednesday, Jan. 31, according to a Southwest Airlines spokesperson.

The spokesperson sent the following statement regarding the incident:

“On January 31, Flight 1859 from El Paso to Las Vegas returned to El Paso to check out a potential mechanical issue. A different aircraft was brought in and continued the flight to Las Vegas. We appreciate our customers’ patience while our teams worked to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible.”

A viewer who was reportedly on the plane shared video with KTSM, where the pilot can be heard saying, “Got to stop here for a minute and make sure everything looks good. We have no abnormal indications other than the engine stopped, so they’re going to come out, take a look, and make sure everything’s good. And then we’ll taxi you back to the gate. And then we will get you more information.”
