EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – After Joe Golding went to see Chapin’s Jayden Leverett last week, UTEP extended a scholarship offer to the Huskies’ 6’10 junior center on Thursday night.
Golding and assistant coach Bryen Spriggs went to Leverett’s house to extend a scholarship offer that had been a long-time coming. The Miners have been closely watching Leverett’s rise during a breakout junior year for the fourth-ranked Huskies, even inviting him to a game for an unofficial visit earlier this season.
Moreover, both of Leverett’s parents were athletes at UTEP, so he has family ties to the university as well.

The offer from UTEP was Leverett’s second Division I scholarship offer of the week. Nearby New Mexico State offered Leverett on Tuesday, after Aggies head coach Jason Hooten saw him play in person during a win over Andress.
Leverett has also been in touch with the Aggies’ staff for awhile and went on an unofficial visit last weekend for NMSU’s win over Jacksonville State. The Aggies and Miners joined Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and South Alabama as D1 programs to offer Leverett.
