Murder trial begins for man accused of killing another in dispute over urinating dog

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The murder trial is underway for a man accused of a 2021 murder in Northeast El Paso after a dispute over a dog urinating escalated into a shooting.

The trial of Eduardo Blanco began on Monday, June 24 in 327th District Court with Judge Monique Velarde Reyes presiding.

Blanco is charged with murder in the death of 26-year-old Atravius Burkes in Northeast El Paso.

According to court documents, a dispute between Burke and Blanco began when Blanco’s dog urinated on a next-door neighbor’s property and Burkes confronted Blanco about it.

Burkes then allegedly retaliated by urinating on Blanco’s property.

Blanco is accused of shooting Burkes with an AK-47. Blanco has maintained that it was self-defense after Burkes pulled a gun on him.
