The contest for the District 7 seat on the El Paso City Council is shaping up to be one of the most competitive this election season.
Former city Rep. Lily Limón is looking to make a comeback, but she’s facing stiff opposition from Fabiola Campos-Lopez, a 35-year resident of the area and chairwoman for the El Paso Neighborhood Coalition. The two will face Alan Serna in the Nov. 5 General Election.
The seat is open to new blood this year as current Eastridge-Mid-Valley city Rep. Henry Rivera is completing his second and final term on the City Council at the end of the year.
“I believe I’m a visionary leader with the first thing (people) may be asking about: integrity,” Campos-Lopez said. “With integrity, commitment and high responsibility, I’m not the one to stay sitting and wait for things to happen, I make things happen for the community.”
From leading a coalition of neighborhood groups to successfully fighting a years-long battle on behalf of District 7, Campos-Lopez could be a formidable opponent in the race.
