Police ID pedestrian who was struck, killed in Northeast El Paso

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — El Paso Police have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed Monday morning, July 1, in Northeast El Paso.

Police say at around 10:30 a.m., Jaime Lara Arenivas, 50, was crossing east to west on the 8600 block of Dyer when a 79-year-old man traveling north on Dyer in an SUV struck Arenivas.

First aid was rendered by the 79-year-old man, and police add that the man was unable to avoid Arenivas.

Arenivas was transported to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Police say the contributing factor in this crash was a pedestrian in the roadway.

This is the 34th traffic fatality this year compared to 39 last year.
