NM Information Technology secretary has El Paso ties

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — New Mexico’s new cabinet secretary for the Department of Information Technology has an El Paso connection.

Manny Barreras was was appointed by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to serve as the state’s next secretary for Information Technology. The announcement was made Friday, Sept. 6.

For the past 19 years, Barreras has worked for Motorola Solutions Inc., where he was the senior territory account manager for New Mexico and El Paso.

“Manny Barreras is an exceptional leader with a proven track record in driving innovative solutions and delivering critical communication systems for public safety,” Lujan Grisham said. “His extensive experience and deep understanding of the challenges facing state and local agencies make him the ideal person to lead the Department of Information Technology. I am confident that under his leadership, New Mexico will continue to advance our technology infrastructure to better serve our communities.”

According to the news release issued by the Governor’s Office, Barreras has more than 26 years of professional experience in sales and business development, including 22 years in technical sales, marketing management and public relations.
