El Paso police: Calls of shooting in Northeast neighborhood was fireworks

False reports of gunshots, which turned out to be fireworks, caused a police mobilization Friday evening in a Northeast El Paso neighborhood, a police spokesman said.

The incident began when police responded to a family violence call shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at apartments in the 8600 block of Dyer Street next to the Sunrise Village shopping center, police spokesman Officer Adrian Cisneros said Monday.

Later, the man suspected in the assault was spotted in the area of Guadalupe Drive and Chisos Lane behind the Sunrise Village shopping center, Cisneros said. The man fled and has not been arrested.

There were fireworks nearby but residents called in reports of gunshots leading to a large police response, Cisneros said. Police found no shots fired and no injuries reported.
