Chico’s Tacos prices nearly triple since 2019, sparking nostalgia among El Paso residents

Many of us remember when we pulled out a few dollars to pay for a single order of crunchy rolled tacos submerged in tomato sauce and smothered with cheese at our beloved Chico’s Tacos in El Paso.

A dollar or two more could get us a side of warm, crinkle-cut fries or an iconic round hotdog topped with a generous portion of beans and served on a bun.

Those days seem to be gone, though, with inflation impacting everything from groceries to gas — and a viral social media post illustrates how high prices are soaring at the legendary Chico’s Tacos.

“Check out the new prices at Chico’s Tacos,” the FitFam Instagram post reads.

The cost of a single order of tacos is now $4.44 not including tax, according to the post, which shows the price increase effective August 2024.

For comparison, a single order of tacos was $2.40 in 2019.

The post left many El Pasoans reminiscing about when a single order of tacos cost a dollar and some change.

“I’m old enough to remember when a single order was $1.07,” said one comment.
