EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A 39-year-old man from Santa Teresa, New Mexico, was killed on Sunday night, Sept. 22 when he was speeding along Gateway East and struck another vehicle, El Paso Police said.

Police say Bustamante was traveling at a “high rate of speed.” The driver in front of him merged right into the next lane to avoid being hit by the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcycle, however, struck the rear left corner of the vehicle, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown from the bike, police said.

Bustamante was transported to a local hospital where he died, police said.

Speed on the part of Bustamante is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, police said.

This is the 46th traffic fatality in El Paso, compared to 55 at the same time last year.
