A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was sentenced to two years in federal prison for using excessive force against two people at the Bridge of the Americas and falsifying a report related to one of incidents in a federal investigation, authorities said.
Miguel Angel Delgado Jr., 41, was sentenced Thursday, Sept. 26, to two years in federal prison on two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law and one count of the falsification of a document in a federal investigation, U.S. Attorney’s Office officials said. The sentences will be served concurrently.
The sentencing comes after Delgado was convicted on the three charges by a federal judge in May during a bench trial — where the judge, instead of a jury, determined his guilty, federal court records show.
He was originally indicted on the charges in March 2023. Prior to his conviction, Delgado had been a CBP officer since May 2007.
Delgado was facing up to 10 years in prison on each count of deprivation of rights under color of law and up to 20 years in prison over the falsification of a document in a federal investigation.
