Expect delays along NM 28 in coming week

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — If you use New Mexico Highway 28, you can expect some delays in the coming week.

Staring Monday, Sept. 30, the New Mexico Department of Transportation will be closing part of NM 28 for culvert pipe replacement.

NM 28 will be closed from Milepost 11 (NM 226, Berino Road) to Milepost 7.9 (NM 186, West Ohara Road). The culvert pipe will be taking palce at Milepost 10.1, just north of Chamberino.

NM 28 is the scenic backway between El Paso and Las Cruces and is used to access a handful of rural communities in southern Dona Ana County.

A detour will be in place both directions using NM 478 to connect NM 226 (Berino Road) and NM 186 (Ohara Road). The closure is expected to last approximately three days, with NM 28 reopening on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

This closure is necessary for the safety of both travelers and construction workers, NMDOT said.
