El Paso man arrested for allegedly beating dog

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A 20-year-old El Paso man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly beat his dog on two separate occasions, El Paso Police said.

Police said Anthony James Sepulveda was arrested on Wednesday Sept. 25. He was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals (kill, poison, serious bodily injury).

In June, the Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigation Unit was called about an animal cruelty case along the 1600 block of Lee Trevino in East El Paso.

During the initial investigation, a witness told police they had seen Sepulveda strike his dog, named Apollo, with a metal rod multiple times to the point where the dog yelped out in pain.

In a separate incident, investigators said they learned that Sepulveda had hit his dog with a belt.

Sepulveda was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $10,000 bond. Since the incidents, the dog has been given to a new home.
