PD: Elderly man drives drunk, dies after crash in Northeast El Paso

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — An 85-year-old El Paso man has recently died after crashing into another vehicle while driving drunk back in August in Northeast El Paso, according to El Paso Police.

Police say Richard Carlton Wilson, 85, was traveling westbound on the 5200 block of Woodrow Bean in a Nissan Sentra just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Wilson failed to control his speed and struck the rear of a Dodge Durango that occupied a 36-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman, and two children, according to police. The Dodge Durango was stopped at a red light westbound at the intersection of Woodrow Bean and Rushing.

Police say the 36-year-old man and the 29-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and the children were unharmed. However, Wilson suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Wilson was initially in stable condition but died as a result of his injuries on Friday, Sept. 27.

Police say Wilson’s failure to control his speed and alcohol on his behalf were contributing factors in the crash.
