El Paso voters face long lines on first day of early voting as competitive races begin

Earl y vot ing is underway in El Paso, and voters are already making a mad dash to the polls.

Voting centers across El Paso were inundated Monday, Oct. 21, as the first day of early voting kicked off ahead of Nov. 5 General Election. Along with electing the next president and other key national seats, El Paso voters are weighing in on a wide slate of local races poised to cause significant shifts in the Borderland political world.

Early voting runs from Monday, Oct. 21, through Friday, Nov. 1.

For one lucky Dallas Cowboys fan, the day began with a visit from NFL legend Emmitt Smith, who came to town in support of Renard Johnson’s mayoral campaign .

“I’m scared, anxious, excited,” said Angelina Morales-Razo from her front porch as she awaited Smith’s arrival at her El Paso home.

Morales-Razo purchased a ticket for Johnson’s luncheon fundraiser alongside Smith and was then selected to meet with Smith one-on-one before heading to the polls. Tickets for the campaign fundraiser were $250 or $500.
