Students were released early from Franklin High School after classes were canceled due to a water utility issue.
A message sent to parents on Thursday, Oct. 24, informed them that students needed to be picked up at 1 p.m. and all extracurricular activities were canceled. The El Paso Independent School District is working with El Paso Water to resolve the issue, according to a statement released by EPISD.
“The safety and the well-being of our students and staff is our top priority,” the statement said.
Following the students’ release, El Paso Water crews assisted staff with flushing the school’s water lines. The utility also took water samples and found chlorine readings were at healthy levels, indicating the water is safe to consume, said a statement by El Paso Water.
A separate incident with the school’s wastewater system is unrelated to El Paso Water and is being handled by school staff as a property issue, the utility said.
Parents will be notified whether classes will resume on Friday, Oct. 25.
