UTEP volleyball faces biggest test yet against Western Kentucky’s 84-game win streak

This is what the UTEP volleyball team has been building for.

Six years removed from being one of the worst teams in America, the Miners are one of the best. As of Thursday, Oct. 24, they were the only team nationally (out of 336) with 20 wins , a 20-2 record, a 13-match winning streak, a 20-match regular-season home winning streak and a 10-0 Conference USA record , where they have won 30 of 31 sets.

This weekend, mighty Western Kentucky (17-6) marches into Club Memorial, and something has to give. The Hilltoppers bring with them an 84-game CUSA regular-season winning streak that started when they swept UTEP on Oct. 26, 2018. Like UTEP, they have a 10-0 league record.

Western Kentucky has made the NCAA tournament for 10 consecutive years, spanning its entire tenure in CUSA. After a 4-6 start this season that included three losses to ranked teams and three more to other power conference teams, it has won 13 straight matches while dropping just five sets. It is 15-0 all-time against UTEP.
