EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) is conducting what they call an “equity assessment.”
According to EPISD, the goal of the survey is to identify and address any barriers to equity that may exist within their schools.
In a statement sent to KTSM the district said in part:
“The survey includes questions aimed at understanding a range of demographic factors to ensure we are meeting the needs of all students.”
Some parents, who did not want to be identified, are concerned that the whole survey isn’t being disclosed ahead of children filling it out, and they add that the opt-out method is complicated.
“A complete survey cannot be seen by parents ahead of time or even by request,” a parent said.
“The survey uses opt-out methodology. If no action or reply is taken by the parent, then an opt-in is assumed by default. We believe that this opt-out method does not protect all parents’ rights equally. A parent may perhaps overlook and miss this email,” another parent said.
