EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — An El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) nurse has been named 2024 Texas School Nurse of the Year.
Grace Carbajal was recognized by the Texas School Nurses Organization (TSNO) and will receive an award at the annual TSNO Conference on Nov. 2-3 in Frisco, Texas, EPISD said in a news release.
“I’m deeply humbled and honored to receive this award,” Carbajal said. “I feel blessed to represent all the great school nurses who work diligently every day. Being a school nurse is about more than just healthcare — it’s about supporting students in every aspect of their lives. Whether it’s medical care, mentorship, teaching them on how to take care of themselves, I strive to make a positive impact on each student I encounter.”
According to EPISD, Carbajal was previously selected as Region 19 School Nurse of the Year in May.
Carbajal has over 30 years of nursing experience with 17 years being a school nurse. She joined EPISD as a float nurse in 2022.
As a float nurse, that allows Carbajal to provide care and support to students across various campuses and grade levels, according to EPISD.
