EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — Sun Metro is inviting young El Paso artists from kindergarten through 12th grade to participate in the free “I Spy on the Streetcar…” art contest.
The contest will run until 5 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2025, and participants are encouraged to showcase their interpretations of El Paso’s vibrant culture and cityscapes, the City of El Paso said in a news release.
According to the City, “participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from the unique sights along the streetcar’s two interconnected loops, which carry riders through El Paso’s Downtown and Uptown districts, connecting them to local shops, eateries, and cultural landmarks.”
Each grade category winner (K-5, 6-8 and 9-12) will receive two six-month Sun Metro bus passes, a Sun Metro swag bag and the honor of having their artwork displayed at Sun Metro and City facilities, the City said.
“The contest provides an opportunity for our youth, El Paso’s future leaders, to get involved in our community and foster a sense of pride and ownership of our community through their artwork,” Sun Metro Director Anthony DeKeyzer said. “It also allows them to familiarize themselves with essential public services, such as Sun Metro which is a lifeline for many residents who rely on public transit to get around.”
