SOFTBALL | Lady Pirates ride perfect recipe to 5-0 win, advance to the 5A regional round

FORT STOCKTON — Lubbock-Cooper has figured out a playoff formula that works pretty well: Get great pitching and strike when you can offensively.

That equation provided the foundation of a 5-0 triumph against El Paso Parkland on Saturday that sends the Lady Pirates on to the third round for the second year in a row.

Brooklyn Ray dominated the Lady Matadors from the circle with a 3-hit shutout and the LCP bats generated a pair of crooked-number innings to inflict all the damage needed.

Lydia Pesterfield drove in 3 runs with two hits, while Gabbi Hernandez and Addison Gunset were also 2-for-3 as that trio supplied most of the offensive firepower in the victory…
