EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — University Medical Center of El Paso is pioneering by having a mobile stroke unit, the first of its kind in the region, designed to deliver life-saving care when every second counts. The unit has been up and running since September 2021.
May is National Stroke Awareness Month and the World Health Organization says that 15 million people worldwide suffer a stroke yearly.
This innovative unit is equipped with a CT scanner, allowing medical professionals to quickly determine if a patient is experiencing an ischemic stroke or a hemorrhage, and administer crucial medication within the critical first hours.
