The El Paso Zoo & Botanical Gardens has swung into its spring and summer hours, inviting wildlife aficionados and their families to check out some fresh faces and chime in on a giraffe-naming party. In what could be the most awww-inducing crowd-sourcing effort this side of the Rio Grande, the zoo asks for public help in putting a name tag on its wobbly-kneed, long-necked baby giraffe that hit the ground running a month ago.
According to the City of El Paso, the zoo’s spring and summer hours are now in effect from Wednesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. But for those who live for spring break overscheduling, the zoo will be open every day during the school reprieve to handle the extra traffic of visitors.
Among the zoo’s new residents are two Lar Gibbons—Lucy and Thai—whose arboreal acrobatics and vocal concerts can be witnessed live and unfiltered. Not ones to be overshadowed, Zula and Bimo, the zoo’s Binturongs, are nocturnal creatures with popcorn-scented pee—quite the olfactory oddity. A Swainson’s Hawk named Refund has also made the zoo his tax-season home.
