Tomorrow marks a pivotal moment for the U.S. Army Medical Command’s (MEDCOM) 4th Cohort at El Paso Community College (EPCC), as these dedicated medics clad in uniform will be donning caps and gowns to celebrate their graduation. This ceremony is not merely a testament to the completion of the intense accelerated paramedic program under the college’s Emergency Medical Services Program, it’s an acknowledgment of their unwavering commitment to service and growth. The EPCC program has distinguished itself by offering U.S. Army medics a pathway to rapidly advance their certifications as paramedics while they continue to serve.
According to EPCC News, Sotero Ramirez, whose history with the EMSP spans over three decades, sees the program as more than an academic endeavor. “There were moments in my life when emergencies happened and no one was there to help,” he told EPCC News. The frustration he experienced spurred him to seek training and later to passionately teach, preparing the next generation of medics to step quickly into roles where they can actively make a difference.
Graduating medic Austin Saxon spoke on the alliance between the Army and EPCC in crafting this specialized program, “The Army worked with EPCC to build this accelerated program. It’s tough, day in and day out, but we knew it would be worth it,” he mentioned, as per EPCC News.
