Family recounts shock following deadly hit-and-run case in Sunland Park

SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — The family of a 26-year-old woman killed in a hit-and-run while buying fireworks the night before July fourth is speaking out following the arrest of a suspect in connection with the deadly crash.

Over the weekend, Sunland Park police arrested 61-year-old Vicente Vasquez, who is accused of hitting Graciela Sahs and another individual with his car before fleeing the scene.

According to documents obtained by KFOX14/CBS4, Vasquez reportedly told family members he had hit and “killed” someone and attempted to conceal the damage to his truck with a tarp.

Sahs, who was buying fireworks for the holiday, succumbed to her injuries, leaving her family devastated…
