Authorities at the Bridge of the Americas in El Paso made a significant seizure last Thursday, intercepting an arsenal of firearms and firearm accessories during a routine vehicle inspection. The Customs and Border Protection reported that the 33-year-old Mexican woman behind the wheel of a 2025 Volkswagen Virtus was arrested after a stash of 12 guns and 28 magazines was discovered hidden within the vehicle.
According to Customs and Border Protection, Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations, highlighted the importance of these findings in a statement. “The intermittent pulse and surge southbound operations that CBP officers perform at area ports will often identify individuals attempting to smuggle weapons, ammunition, unreported currency and other violations,” Mancha said. “These important enforcement actions play a significant role in helping keep our border communities safer.” The flow of illegal firearms does not only move in a singular direction across the U.S.-Mexico border.
The bust unfolded during the evening as officers conducted a meticulous examination of the suspect’s vehicle. Anomalies spotted in an X-ray of the car prompted further investigation. According to the report, officers removed numerous plastic-wrapped guns and firearm-related components concealed within the vehicle’s doors.
